The speed at which you play blackjack is probably the least of your worries. After all, there is already plenty to worry about in terms of strategy and bankroll management so why add one more thing to the list?
However, it's very important that you focus on playing speed because it directly affects your blackjack profits just as much as anything else. You March be shaking your head in disagreement right now, but the following illustrates why playing speed is so crucial to being a great blackjack player.

How hands per hour affects profits
Let's assume that you use excellent blackjack strategy and narrow the house edge down to 0.5%. Being this good, you probably could care less about how many players are at the table. But not caring about the number of players at your table is one of the biggest mistakes in blackjack.
If you sit down at a table with 6 or 7 players, you can reasonably expect to see between 60 and 80 hands dealt an hour. If there are only 1 or 2 players at the table, you're going to see between 150 and 200 hands an hour.
Obviously you can already see a major difference in the amount of hands, but the more important factor is how your profits are affected.
With 80 hands per hour being dealt in $10 blackjack, you would only lose $4 an hour (80 hands X $10 X 0.005). But with 200 hands per hour, you would drop $10 an hour (200 hands X $10 X 0.005); this is certainly a big difference if you plan on playing a lot of blackjack.
Slowing down your playing speed
Since you have a better chance of making profits by playing less hands per hour, it would make sense to slow down your playing speed. And the main way you do this is by making sure that you're at a full table.
As we saw before, having 6 or 7 players at the table will slow down the game tremendously. With a slower game, you will be able to beat the casino in more blackjack sessions.
